I READ Mr Chay Jones's letter (LET, November 12) regarding British society being undermined and I was struck by the photograph on the opposite page of two children celebrating Eid.
Whilst I agree with Mr Jones about political correctness gone mad in Lambeth, I don't feel that our society or national identity will be lost or undermined if we all agree to 'recognise' each other's religion and culture.
I have a few acquaintances who are Muslim and I always try to remember to wish them a Happy Eid and they, in turn, will more often than not wish me a Happy Christmas.
The two beautiful children in your photograph were obviously of different cultures but were smiling and both, I am sure, in total acceptance of each other's customs.
Yes, I agree, we shouldn't call Christmas lights winter lights, but we should also recognise Eid and Diwali. Recognition, that is what is important.
JUDITH WHITE, Mellor.
