WITH reference to Blackburn Council's hare-brained scheme to uncover the Blakewater.
This latest proposal ranks with the disastrous and now ghostly Church Street piazza. This closed a main artery and sent traffic on a Mickey Mouse type route across the bus station resulting in gridlock.
The wide roads our far-sighted forebears created were also not safe. They are now obstacle courses with bollards, islands, chicanes and areas of aptly-named block paving. Camouflaged speed cameras placed in areas of maximum likely revenue complete the picture.
Costly lumps of metal and stone, that our political masters call "works of art," are foisted on us to patronisingly give us some cultural stimulation.
I could also mention Blackburn's empty market stalls and car parking in the town centre but as most shoppers are going to Preston, Bolton and Clitheroe etc., that won't be a problem.
Are we to mimic Venice and will we yet see gondolas on our beloved culvert?
The lunatics have taken over the asylum.
