A COUPLE who were literally left without a roof over their heads after a tornado swept through a Lancashire village have moved back in six months on.
Adam Porter and Helen Simpson, who are expecting their first baby, were forced to move out after the freak storm destroyed parts of their home.
And keen runner Adam had to miss out on the New York Marathon when the disruption of finding alternative accommodation meant he could not train.
The 70mph mini tornado, which was 100yards in diameter, took the roof off their bungalow in Hoghton Lane, Hoghton and wrecked their loft and garage.
Although it only lasted a few minutes, 25 firefighters and 10 police officers were needed in the rescue team.
The pair, who had been out for the day, even joked about the twister which they saw in the sky as they drove home.
Little did they know that tiles, fence panels, breeze blocks, and even full roofs, including their own, were being blown 100 yards down the road.
Adam, 28 said: "The chimney had completely fallen in and landed in the bedroom over the computer desk. I could easily have been sat there. We are so lucky that we weren't in. It was such a mess. There was debris everywhere. The roof was gone.
"We have converted the loft area into a study. As we had to repair it, we thought we might as well.
"We stayed with Helen's relatives down the road, which was great, but it is good to be home."
Around 30 properties were damaged where the tornado struck ground.
