Three youths involved in an early morning rumpus which left two takeaway workers injured appeared before Burnley magistrates.

Slaughterman Kyle Dobson, 19, used racist comments while friends, chef Daniel Pate, 18, and David Tyldsley, 19, were also involved in the melee.

Dobson, of Westgate, admitted using racially aggravated threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.

He was fined £100 with £75 costs. The defendant had no previous convictions.

Pate, of Woodplumpton Road, and Tyldsley, of Ighten Road, all Burnley, pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.

They were each conditionally discharged for 12 months and must pay £75 costs.

The court was told the victims were minding their own business but both were left hurt as a result of the defendants' conduct.

For Dobson, Dylan Bradshaw said there had been banter over a bicycle with the two workers but it turned to unpleasantness. The defendant had let himself down.

He came from a supportive background and the offence was a one-off which arose out of a lack of proper thinking on his part and immaturity.

Mr Bradshaw went on: "His actions were completely without justification. He is a man of good character who made a mistake."

For Pate, a chef at the Fence Gate Inn, Ben Leach said the defendant had not been drunk and had no previous convictions.

He had finished work at 12.30am and had not gone out looking for trouble.

Representing Tyldsley, Mr Leach said he was currently unemployed.
