Ade Akinbiyi today hailed Burnley manager Steve Cotterill as a future England boss.

The Clarets striker is enjoying a purple patch in a career that stalled during two dismal years at Leicester following a £5m club record signing from Wolves in 2000.

And ahead of the latest match-up with the Foxes at Turf Moor today, he spelled out his regret at making the move to the Midlands for a fee that immediately became a burden.

He said: "Looking back I wished I'd stayed at Wolves for another year before I moved to Leicester.

"I made the move and obviously it didn't work out for me and I thought at the time that was a big fee.

"But everything was moving so fast and I had people around me who were just interested in the finance part and weren't looking after me.

"If you go to a club for that fee people will be expecting big things from you and so I had pressure on me all the time, and that affects your game."

Akinbiyi, whose career is now right back on track with 16 goals in 30 Burnley appearances since Cotterill paid £600,0000 for his services in February, added: "When you've got a manager who drums confidence into you week in and week out then it pays off.

"Steve is a keen manager and is young and ambitious. In the future he could be England manager if he keeps on doing what he's doing."
