Young people seeking a career in sport are to be offered help in a new project in Chorley.
The scheme is called On The Ladder and is open to anyone aged between 14 and 24 interested in becoming a sports coach or official.
It is organised by Chorley Borough Council and offers a range of courses working towards awards and qualifications in sport.
Councillor Cath Hoyle, Chorley's executive member for life and leisure, said: "On The Ladder brings together the council, local schools and the Community Safety Partnership to try and get young people involved in something positive for them and for their community."
The courses will be delivered out of school and college time by qualified tutors at various venues.
It will involve sporting clubs and teams throughout the borough so participants will have the chance to work with more experienced coaches and officials in the future.
The project is supported by Frank Crook of Chorley Athletics Club who recently scooped the Chorley Sports Awards title of Coach of the Year and has experience working with athletes at international level.
He said: "Coaching or officiating is a great way to get involved in sport. It improves you as a person, helps you make friends for life and gives you so much satisfaction in return when you see the skills you can pass onto others."
Courses include football, crown green bowling, rugby union and league, cricket, athletics, netball, basketball and table tennis.
