Balloons will be released on Preston's Flag Market on Sunday in remembrance of people who died or were injured in road accidents.
The special event is being held by RoadPeace, a national charity that helps those bereaved or traumatised by traffic accidents.
The balloon release in the city forms part of a day of commemoration services and events across the country.
The Lancashire branch of the group is led by Maria Hodgson, of Mulgrove Avenue, Ashton.
She became involved in the charity after she lost her husband, Brian, in 1992 when he was killed by a drunk driver.
Mrs Hodgson said: "We will release one balloon at a time with a ribbon attached, because if you release a big amount at once you have to get permission from the airport authority."
She said members of the branch would be on hand to offer support and information for anyone suffering from the aftermath of a crash.
The branch, which meets at the Council for Voluntary Service, Lancaster Road, every two months started in January 2005.
Mrs Hodgson said the group was considering setting up a drop-in morning, in addition to the meetings.
"I know that if you have been badly injured in a road accident it can be very traumatic, we just aim to offer support," she added
The stall on the Flag Market will be open from noon to 2pm.
