Despite Simon Grayson's impressive start to his Blackpool managerial career, he is still likely to be passed over in favour of a more experienced hand for a permanent role.
Names in the frame are expected to include former Barnsley and Nottingham Forest boss and 70s Seasiders stalwart, Paul Hart, ex-Blackburn assistant boss, Tony Parkes and even, at a stretch, ex-Burnley chief, Stan Ternent.
More far-fetched speculation has whispered the name of George Burley while the departure of Gillingham chief, Neale Cooper could also see him emerge as a late, late candidate.
Grayson himself has yet to commit to applying for the job but is expected to have a backroom role at Bloomfield Road whoever the new manager is.
