Polish defender Antoni Lukasiewicz has now returned to his homeland after completing a trial spell with Blackburn Rovers.
The 22-year-old trained with Rovers last week after he was invited to spend several days with the club by Hughes.
The Polish Under 21 international captain did okay, but Hughes now intends to send scouts to watch him in action for his club side Polonia Warsaw before deciding whether or not to take his interest further.
Lukasiewicz said: "I think after the short trial at Blackburn I am closer rather than further to the club. In my opinion, I did well.
"I haven't heard much from the club apart from 'we'll be in touch', but I'm not worried about that. I'm optimistic.
"All I can do now is train hard and try and do well in the Polish league, then wait to see what happens."
