DUANE Courtney is hoping that history repeats itself when Burnley host Leicester City this weekend.
The rookie defender made his Clarets debut in the corresponding fixture in last month's 1-0 Walkers Stadium victory, appearing as a substitute in front of over 23,000 supporters just weeks after running out for UniBond League Telford United.
And after progressing to make his first full start for the club in the thrilling 3-2 win at Luton Town last time out, Courtney is ready to step into the breach once more if right back Michael Duff fails to recover from an ankle injury.
"I made my first appearance against Leicester and hopefully I will be involved again on Saturday, so I am just keeping my fingers crossed," said the 20-year-old stopper.
"If I'm in (the team) then I will give it my all and if I'm not then I will keep my head up and wait for the next week.
"I have always played centre half at Birmingham City and at Telford. But I've played a few games at right back at reserve level and I will give it a go to be in the team."
Courtney, who jumped at the chance to join the Clarets in a two-year deal in August, admits to finding the leap up five divisions a tough one.
But after that debut at Leicester, five subsequent appearances as a sub and an incident -packed 90 minutes as cover for Duff at right back at Kenilworth Road, the ex-Birmingham City trainee is quickly learning to love life at Championship level.
"Playing at Luton was a great game in which to make your debut," added the £25,000 signing.
"I found it quite hard, but it was the first competitive game I've ever played in.
"Previously I'd only had two minutes here and two minutes there, but I know I can do it and it's just a case of getting in the team because given the chance I will do a job.
"I just have to keep going and hopefully I get that chance. Things has gone well for me, all the lads have been great and the fans have been good as well.
"I'm enjoying life down here and I hope I'm here for a few years to come."
