POLICE who stopped a car which had been in a crash in Darwen got two convictions for the price of one, magistrates heard.
The woman driving when the car was stopped was over the limit but the man behind the wheel at the time of the collision was a disqualified driver.
Jason Almond, 23, of Laxey Road, Blackburn, admitted driving while banned and without insurance, without due care, and failing to stop after an accident. Sentence was adjourned so details of compensation payable to the other motorist could be established.
Joanne Close, prosecuting, said Robert Dearden was driving along Bog Height Road when he saw a set of headlights coming from behind him.
"The next thing he knew that car ran into the back of him, shunting him forward," Mrs Close told the Blackburn court.
The car then drove off but Mr Dearden followed until it parked up in Hall Street. By this stage the male driver had been replaced by a female and when she set off, Mr Dearden followed and noticed she was driving erratically.
The female driver eventually failed a breath test and Almond admitted driving at the time of the crash.
Andrew Church-Taylor, defending, said Almond had been out with two young ladies in a car belonging to one of them. He had been playing pool and had drunk very little but the girls had enjoyed a good night out.
