THE aches and pains have just about started to wear off for Jamie Hoyland after his debut marathon.
The former Burnley defender, who was famed for vomiting before every game because of nerves, admitted that he was close to maintaining his trend in last Sunday's New York Marathon.
Thankfully for his 42,000 plus fellow runners, he managed to avoid any mishaps on the starting line. Which is just as well considering he was jogging alongside television's Lorraine Kelly for the first half mile!
Hoyland went on to complete the marathon - running through the streets of Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx before heading back towards Fifth Avenue - in four hours and 59 minutes.
"I was a bit disappointed with the time, but I managed to do it without walking," said the 39-year-old, who was raising money for Whizz Kidz.
"But it was 77 degrees so it was pretty warm, and it didn't help that I had the charity's bunny ears on.
"The lads who I was running with said it's the hardest course they've ever done because it's really hilly, and I was shuffling a bit towards the end.
"But I got one of those silver foil things, which has been one of my ambitions, and I was 27,000 and something overall, so that's not bad."
Unfazed by his gruelling experience, Hoyland is already planning the next marathon - possibly in Dublin next year.
But first he is ready to tackle 500 miles of the Ultimate Burnley FC Bike Ride, cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise cash for Burnley FC's youth development and Cancer Research UK.
"I'm going to have to do it to keep my legs moving, otherwise they might seize up," Hoyland quipped. "But the marathon was brilliant. My only problem now is that my big toes are black and blue."
