A SELFLESS Burnley teenager rubbed shoulders with royalty and celebrities at Buckingham Palace in recognition of his community work.

Jordan Dean, 16, met the Queen, Prince Philip and the Duchess of Wessex as well as cast members from Coronation Street, Nell McAndrew, and top politicians including Michael Howard and Gordon Brown at the reception.

Jordan's tireless work as a volunteer with Brunshaw Action Group and Breaking Barriers in Burnley has already earned him the title Lancashire Citizen of the Year and now he is to receive the prestigious Princess Diana Memorial Young Person's Award for his work.

And he was invited to the palace after scooping a TV "Local Hero" award.

Jordan said: "To meet someone as important as the Queen was a fantastic opportunity. I hadn't known I'd be going until the day before so it all came as a bit of a surprise. But everyone was very nice and there was a whole range of people there.

"I talked to the Duchess of Wessex for about five minutes and she was really interested in my work with the Brunshaw Action Group. She took a few details about the work we do and where we are so there's every chance that she'll be paying us a visit in the future."

As well as meeting celebrity guests at the palace in London, Jordan also met other "Local Heroes" from around the country.

Jordan is studying AS Levels in Psychology, Sociology, Business Studies and ICT at Burnley College and would like to become a youth worker after going to university.

He will be presented with the Princess Diana Memorial Young Person's Award at his former school Towneley High.
