A PLAQUE honouring more than a dozen fallen heroes from the Second World War has been unveiled in Great Harwood.
The memorial will commemorate the 13 men who attended churches in Great Harwood at the time of the war, and has taken years of planning by local groups.
The plaque was unveiled at Our Lady and St Hubert's Church, Great Harwood, after a morning Mass that featured poems read by local schoolchildren.
Youngsters at St Hubert's RC School have been involved in the project, and teachers at the school have worked it into the children's curriculum for citizenship and history.
Representatives from the army and Royal British Legion were also present for the ceremony.
Ann Whalley, Year Six teacher at St Hubert's, said: "The children have thoroughly enjoyed it.
"It has made it all a little bit more tangible, they have been involved with the project and have visited the local war memorial.
"It gives them a great sense of involvement with it.
"The most important thing is the act of remembrance."
