THE annual fireworks nightmare will not improve, unless we can persuade the Government to change these stupid firework laws.

As the law stands, fireworks can be bought and used 365 days of the year and legally let off 16 hours of every day, with an extra hour for November 5, an extra two hours for Diwali, Chinese New Year and New Year's Eve.

Oh, I nearly forgot, the almost unenforceable 11pm to 7am curfew.

Fireworks are still being used as weapons against people, animals and property. Fireworks still cause injuries. In 2003, 1,136 people injured by fireworks and in 2004, 1,160 people were injured. Fireworks are still causing fear, danger, suffering and disturbance to people and animals.

My second petition, calling for fireworks to be restricted to organised licensed displays only at fixed times of the year and to reduce the noise levels of all fireworks to a maximum 85db, has over 90,000 signatures.

I am trying to arrange a date to present it at 10 Downing Street, until then I am still collecting signatures, so if anyone would like to add their name to this firework petition please write to Teresa Kulkarni, 1 Methuen Avenue, King's Lynn, Norfolk PE30 4BN or see website www.fireworkspetition.co.uk

Please write to your MPs, tell them how fireworks are affecting you and your animals. They need to hear it from you.

TERESA KULKARNI.
