A WOMAN who plunged 25ft from an upstairs window of a house in Waterfoot has died.

Today neighbours spoke of their shock after the 26-year-old, who they said was a mother-of-two from Waterfoot called Amanda, lost her life.

The woman fell from the bathroom window on the second floor of a three-storey property in Burnley Road East.

She was treated at the scene after the incident between 2am and 2.30am on Sunday. She was then taken to Burnley General Hospital with severe head injuries and later transferred to Blackburn Royal Infirmary.

Police said she died early today.

Mary Scholes, joint proprietor of The Corner Shop, directly opposite the property, said: "I arrived back at the shop in the morning and saw the police outside. It's a real shock. You don't expect things like this to happen in a small place like this.

"Everybody has been talking about it but nobody really knows what happened, it's all speculation at the moment. What exactly happened is a mystery."

A witness, who asked not to be named, added: "I was coming back from a bonfire and saw a woman on the floor. The ambulance and police were there.

"I don't know what had happened but she didn't look in a good way."

Detective Inspector Sam Birtwell said police investigating the incident had ruled out foul play after three people were arrested and later released after questioning.

He said: "At this stage there is no evidence of any suspicious circumstances.

"We would be interested to hear from anybody who may have witnessed the incident."
