A PENDLE school will take to the airwaves today as Park in Pendle FM goes live.
A team of 11 students from Park High School in Colne will be manning their own radio station for three days broadcasting on 87.9FM within a three to four-mile radius of the school.
Students have been busy lining up guests for their shows including local ghost investigator and impressionist Martin Greenwood, representatives from The Information Centre for Young People in Nelson and Pendle Leisure Services.
They are also hoping for an interview with someone from Burnley Football Club.
PIP FM is being sponsored by East Lancashire Creative Industries Department which has set up a school radio project in each of the six East Lancashire boroughs.
School project co-ordinator Adele Curtis said: "We are delighted to host the Pendle part of the ELCID project.
"A team of eleven students will be responsible for all the broadcasting on PIP FM, with shifts of backroom assistants supplying weather and travel updates, along with booking studio guests.
"A few people have asked where the name PIP FM came from. It's simple, PIP stands for Park in Pendle."
Test broadcasts will be made from a specially created studio at the school today and then PIP FM will be live from 8am to 6pm tomorrow and Thursday. Students will play a mixture of music, news and local information.
training and equipment has been provided by David Blaxhall from Brierfield-based The Radio Surgery, which has worked in ten schools in Lancashire.
David said: "It's always a great feeling for a school or college when they finally hit the airwaves after all the training and planning.
"A month ago, the students didn't know how to operate the studio mixer, never mind present a radio programme.
"Now they're in the final stages of practising ready to take to the Colne airwaves."
