JUBILANT Blackburn manager Mark Hughes hailed Saturday's 4-1 demolition of Charlton Athletic as one of the best performances Rovers have turned in since he took charge of the club 13 months ago.

Rovers romped to a fifth straight home win thanks to goals from Brett Emerton, Paul Dickov, Morten Gamst Pedersen and Craig Bellamy.

And the result and performance was all the more remarkable given that Charlton had rolled up at Ewood boasting a perfect away record in the Premiership.

"I thought we were excellent from start to finish," purred Hughes.

"Some of our play in the first half was as good as I've seen since I've been here.

"We got off to a great start through Brett Emerton, who I thought was really positive in everything he did.

"That was a great strike and we were off and running after that.

"We then got the second through a great header from Paul Dickov and, apart from the goal we conceded just before half time when we lost Mickey Gray and didn't quite re-organise quickly enough, I thought we were never in danger of losing.

"In the second half, the game opened up and there were more opportunities again, so I was delighted with our play."

Before Saturday, Charlton had only conceded three goals away from home in the Premiership all season, but they had no answer for a rampant Rovers side that turned on the style in front of the watching Sven Goran Eriksson.

At times, Blackburn played some breathtaking stuff and Hughes now hopes the manner of his side's performance will help to win over some of the critics who have been less than complimentary in the national Press over the last six months.

"Maybe we're just paranoid about some of the Press we've had in the past but we're in the business of trying to win games and win points and we want to change peoples' view of us," said Hughes.

"And I think performances like today's will do that for us.

"Charlton had only conceded three away goals before this but we've been playing well, we've just been getting on with our business, and hoping that people would possibly give us a little bit of credit along the way."
