A HISTORIC country pub named after one of Lancashire's former Lords has re-opened its doors following a £300,000 refurbishment.

The Market Place's Rostron Arms, in Edenfield, named after Lord Rostron of Rossendale, has been given the full treatment by owners Punch Taverns and new licensee James Murray.

James, who moved from an outlet in Leigh, has vowed to breathe new life into the establishment and make it a community venue to be proud of.

He said: "The rural appeal of Edenfield and the opportunity to be a part of a major redevelopment proved far too great a draw.

"I'm a real fan of the great British pub and the Rostron Arms is a fantastic example of a traditional country venue which can play a pivotal role in the local community."

Having been at the pub for several months before contractors came on site, one of James's first community initiatives was to reinstate the local football team, which trains at nearby Chatterton Park and had previously collapsed.

The pub is also now the meeting place of the Bleakholt Animal Society, a shelter home for animals, and the local camera club who use the function room facilities.

The investment, which was completed last month, included the refurbishment of the first and second floor, introduction of new kitchen and dining facilities, movement of the bar, plus the development of an enclosed patio area.

James and his business partner Rita Dickinson have also taken the helm in the kitchen to launch the pub's first food offering with ingredients sourced from local suppliers.

Dave Daniel, business relationship manager at Punch, said: "James has already shown what a great addition he is going to be to our estate and I'm confident he will develop the Rostron Arms into an even better community local."
