A disabled woman has been left unable to use her shower for three months after flooding damaged her bathroom.

Maureen Leach, 59, of Broadfield, Astley Village, has a severe mental handicap and is partially sighted, but lives independently with the help of her daughter.

Her bathroom was flooded in early August when water came in from an upstairs flat. The damage left her adapted shower unit warped and unusable and the ceiling and tiling damaged.

The work to correct the damage has still not been done by her landlord, North British Housing (NBH), much to the disgust of her family.

Michelle Leach, 39, is her mother's primary carer.

She said: "I'm appalled that nearly 12 weeks after this happened my mother still cannot shower and use the bathroom in comfort.

"For the first four weeks no one even came to inspect it despite numerous calls. When a plumber came to work on upstairs he would not look at her bathroom.

"Some tiling was done but it is a shoddy job and the fact that the shower base is completely warped means she has to be escorted to my house streets away to bathe.

"I think the problems with the maintenance began when North British started doing in house repairs with their own people instead of using outside craftsmen.

"I just want my mother to regain the dignity of having a decent bathroom."

A NBH spokesman said: "We do acknowledge and apologise for the delay to Mrs Leach." He said it was a result of teething problems with a new maintenance regime.

The company promised to send a plumber out this week. Rod Fraser, 54, Maureen's son-in-law said a plumber had visited and measured the shower recess but had not replaced the faulty unit.
