X Factor finalists watch out as entertainers in South Ribble prepare to race for a place in a contest with a difference to find fresh new talent.

Contestants in the Top Talent competition, will have to go through a gruelling audition process just like Shayne, Brenda and Andy from the popular television show.

It is the turn of the eight to 16-year-old category on November 19 between 1pm-4pm and the 17-plus category on November 26 from 7pm-9.30pm with both sessions held at Worden Park, Leyland.

Both groups will battle it out for one of eight places in front of three judges, currently being selected, to go through to the live grand final on December 4 for a chance to win £200.

And organisers at South Ribble Borough Council's Community Arts department and Preston Circus School, have teamed up with the Citizen to drum up extra support and to encourage more budding artists to come forward.

Jayne Fletcher, community development officer for South Ribble Borough Council, said: "This is more than just a singing contest and is open to people from Preston and South Ribble where there is a hotbed of talent."

One teenager hoping to be a finalists is Stephanie Booth, 14, of Hillbrook Road, Leyland, who will perform a funky hip hop routine to Mariah Carey's dancefloor filler, Get Your Number.

Stephanie, who has been dancing since she was a toddler, said: "I love dancing and although I'll be a bit nervous I think it'll be a real laugh."

The St Mary's High School student, will have mum, Deborah, 37, dad, Christopher, 39, and brother, Paul, 17, cheering her on. For an entry form contact Michelle Allsopp on 01772 421109.
