North End travel to Leeds on Saturday hoping to beat them for the first time since relegation hit the Yorkshire side 18 months ago.
Traditional rivalry has nothing to do with the resentment some at North End feel towards Leeds - any bitterness has come about through the club's repeated raiding of Deepdale in the last two years.
First David Healy crossed the Pennines last season, followed by winger Eddie Lewis, whose six months of stalling on a new Deepdale deal so he could leave on a free dented the loyalty he'd built up among Preston fans.
But at least North End made some money when Richard Cresswell returned to his native county at the start of this season - though he's already ruled out of Saturday's game as he continues to overcome injury.
There is no guarantee Healy will start either - he's been used as a sub lately, prompting familiar rumours that he is unsettled at Leeds.
With one of the largest squads in the league, Leeds have been accused of buying up the league's top players. Those players haven't brought runaway success with them, though. They are currently fifth, 15 points behind top-placed Sheffield United and just five ahead of Preston sitting in 12th.
At home they seem pretty solid, having won four of their seven matches there, scoring 13 goals, but letting nine too.
Sean Gregan should also play. He's been a regular fixture in the Leeds side this season, most recently playing in their 3-0 defeat at Blackburn in the League Cup.
He's also on four yellow cards for the season. Some things never change!
