A TEENAGE girl has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of a man who was found with stab wounds at a house in Accrington.

The 17-year-old, who was 16 at the time of the offence and cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted killing Ken Embley, 34, of Charter Street, in January.

She will be sentenced in December.

But after the hearing, at Preston Crown Court, Mr Embley's mum Marion, 54, also of Charter Street, hit out at the decision not to proceed with a murder charge.

She said: "I am absolutely disgusted.

"The police have been fantastic with us all the way through but we have been badly let down by the Crown Prosecution Service."

During the hearing the judge, Mr Justice Davis told the defendant: "Part of your sentence will be the fact that you have to live with the position that you stabbed someone to death."

Mr Embley, who was born in Whalley, was found with stab wounds at a house in Royds Street on January 11.

Paramedics battled to save his life and a police officer drove him to Blackburn Royal Infirmary but he died at the hospital.

Mr Embley, a former pupil of Everton High School, Blackburn, which later merged with Shadsworth High School to become Queen's Park High School, was described by his family as a "people person".

His dad, Jimmy, 54, said: "He didn't like being on his own at any time, he always wanted someone there. But he didn't just want the company, he wanted to know about people."

Mr Embley was a keen pool player and captained a team from the Oak Tree Inn, Blackburn Road, Accrington, taking them to second place in their league in 2002.

He was also a passionate Manchester United supporter. At his funeral at Accrington Crematorium many mourners wore the team's colours and his coffin was draped with a Manchester United flag.
