CHORLEY boss Shaun Teale has been dealt a 'bum deal' with the news that leading scorer Peter Wright could miss tomorrow's home game with in-form Spalding United.
The former Blackburn Rovers youth team starlet needed hospital treatment after he tore a buttock cheek during the Magpies' UniBond Challenge Cup defeat at Kidsgrove Athletic on Tuesday night.
Wright, 23, was challenging for a loose ball with a Kidsgrove defender when he landed awkwardly and accidentally got trampled underfoot.
The Magpies forward bravely played on as his side crashed 4-2, but the problem later flared up after the game and Wright felt the need to go to hospital to get it checked out properly.
"It's quite an unusual injury," said Teale. "Peter got involved in a tangle with their centre back and fell awkwardly, which resulted in him ripping his backside!
"I don't know the upshot of his hospital visit yet but if he ends up missing the game tomorrow it will be a blow to us because he's the one person we can't afford to lose at the moment."
Wright has been on fire for the Magpies, scoring 10 goals in 20 appearances since joining the club from Bamber Bridge in the summer.
But, frustratingly for Teale, the rest of the team have failed to hit the same heady heights, to the extent that they have yet to win at home in the league this season.
"We've got to get that monkey off our backs," said the Chorley boss, who could also be without his other main striker, Chris Thompson, tomorrow.
"It starts to get to the players when you're not winning at home and you end up getting in a bit of a rut.
"But one good result could change everything."
Six of Chorley's next eight league games are at home and that sequence could ultimately make-or-break their play-off chances.
Meanwhile, Teale has injected some steel into his midfield by signing Darryl Allen from Runcorn this week, but goalkeeper Paul Horridge has quit to join Ashton United.
