One of the region's biggest fireworks spectaculars promises to be even bigger this year. For the first time Fylde RUFC will be able to open up its new clubhouse to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night.

The annual event, which raised around £10,000 for a series of local charities, takes place at the club's Woodlands ground on Friday, with gates opening at 5.30pm and the fireworks starting at around 7.30pm.

Tickets are priced at £2.50 pre-event, available from the club, Kelly's newsagents, St Annes Tourist Information, Lancashire County Council's Lytham office or the Moghul and Red Fort tandoori restaurants. Admission on the night is £3 or £10 for a family of four.

Blackpool will be lit up on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. From 7pm on Friday the skies above the promenade will be lit up to mark the official end of the illuminations.

The fireworks will be set off from he beach and tourism chiefs have tipped the Promenade, opposite Blackpool Tower, as the place for the best views.

On Saturday and Sunday nights DJs from Rock FM and Magic 999 spin tunes while the fireworks go up above the Gold Mine at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

But, as always, bonfire night revellers have been urged to put safety first.

Nigel Kidner, a consultant at Victoria Hospital's accident and emergency unit, said: "From my experience the majority of injuries occur through people messing about with fireworks or not following the simple safety advice.

"I would urge people to follow the recommended safety measures to avoid getting injured. However, if you do get burnt there are actions you should take. Any burning clothing should be removed immediately and the area should be cooled with clean, cool water. Simple dressings can also be applied."
