THE Secretary of State for International Development, Hilary Benn, will be in Burnley next week.
Mr Benn will the guest of honour at an Eid Celebration and fundraising event taking place at 6.45pm on Friday November 11 at Stoneyholme and Daneshouse Youth and Community Centre.
The event, which has been organised by the Stoneyholme and Daneshouse Community Assoc-iation and Kitty Ussher MP will help raise funds for victims of the recent earthquake in South Asia and an Education Charity in Bangladesh.
One of the joint organisers Shah Hussain said: "We are really pleased that Mr Benn has taken time out of his very busy schedule to attend this event and we think his presence will give a big boost to our fundraising activities.
"Originally we had planned to just raise funds to send some old computers to Bangladesh after former MP, Peter Pike, and I visited the country and discovered many schools without any equipment at all. However, the devastation and loss of lives caused by the South Asian Earthquake has effected many people in Burnley, so naturally we felt the need raise funds for the earthquake relief fund as well."
Tickets for the event cost £10, which includes food, and can be purchased from Kitty Usshers office or from Mohammed Riaz at the Stoneyholme and Daneshouse Youth and Community Centre on 01282 831963.
