BLACKBURN Hawks scored four goals in five minutes to complete a superb winning double.

Three goals in an incredible 49 seconds enabled Hawks to clinch a 4-1 English League home win over previously unbeaten leaders Billingham Bombers on Sunday night.

It was, in the words of Hawks' assistant coach Graham Lomax "a classic night at the Arena".

Just 24 hours earlier, Hawks had gained an English Cup success, winning 5-1 at Kingston Jets.

But it was that goal explosion against the Bombers that got people talking.

After a goalless first period, Hawks broke the deadlock nine minutes into the second period when Tony Kinder finished off good approach play from Wesley Barnett and Ricci Hulme.

On 13 minutes and 52 seconds Craig Sharman scored the second.

Just 35 seconds later, Hawks added a third when Kinder and Hulme set up Wesley Barnett to score.

Just 14 seconds had ticked by when Barnett supplied Kinder who blasted his own second and Hawks fourth to complete the goal rush.

"Three goals in 49 seconds! We just blew them away. It was fantastic," said Lomax.

"We didn't have a single weak link. We got three lines rolling and everything went right. We have a powerful side now, full of people who can hit. And we're more physical now. We will not be bullied any more."

With Peter Tapp out injured and player coach Bobby Haig thrown out of the match after nine minutes of the first period after a disagreement with the referee, Hawks played magnificently to blitz their high-flying opponents.

They came into this game with confidence high after Saturday's Cup triumph at Kingston.

Here, Hawks began quickly surging into a two-goal lead in the first period with Aaron Davies and Michael Brunton hitting the target.

Brunton added his second just a minute into the second period before Kingston pulled one back.

But any chances of a home revival were crushed as new Czech player Jakub Hetjmanek scored his first goals for the Hawks. He made it 4-1 just 48 seconds into the third period, and then added his own second and Hawks' fifth to complete a satisfying performance.

"It was great to see Jakub get his first goals for us," said Graham.
