JEMAL Johnson set Preston on their way to a first home win of the season.
The on-loan Blackburn Rovers striker was set free on the right by skipper Chris Lucketti's through ball. Johnson then raced half the length of the field before cutting into the box and firing a powerful, close range-shot into the roof of the net.
Fourteen minutes after Johnson's 59th minute strike, and fellow loan player David Jones doubled the score.
The Manchester United midfielder blasted home from 20 yards, with the ball going in off the post.
Three minutes later, Chorley-born Paul McKenna completed the goal-scoring when Matty Hill played him into space to fire home from a similar distance as Jones, without the post needed for assistance this time.
Hull offered little in reply, and Carlo Nash comfortably controlled any half chances that came the visitors' way.
Boss Billy Davies said: "We came in at half-time and I was beginning to wonder if it was going to be the same old story again.
"It was very important we continued to play in that manner and the goals finally came.
"We put in a very good performance and deserved the three points. We have got to build on that we have got a so-called monkey off our back."
