WE believe -- in Huncoat -- that we are delivered from evil. We have been attacked and attacked and attacked by Lancashire County Council, by the darkened forces of black propaganda that now goes into the incineration bins.

The last pamphlet that was shoved through our letter boxes showed us that the county councillors had actually gone insane, in a graphic map of their intent to build a horseshoe-shaped road around our village to service their wiles in a bureaucratic state.

We declare a state of independence here and now. Think of us as being a new Switzerland.

There are alternatives to the waste treatment plant being placed on the former Huncoat power station site. New options are being placed before the office of the deputy prime minister.

We request long term initiatives to be creative rather than destructive to our village and environment. We will help all we can, for new plans are in the pipeline.

Proposals for a horseracing track and hotel, plus shops, are being considered by an international consortium in three spots around the globe. One of the tracks may come to this country, if we are so fortunate, in the Altham and Simonstone districts.

A new game of Texas 'hold 'em poker' is being played with a Huncoat variation. We hold four aces, a royal flush, and maybe we gamble on it. The county councillors are only holding a pair of deuces. It is time for them to fold.

Let a new era begin to come into view on the horizon of Time.

ALAN WILLIAMS, Station Road, Huncoat.
