BURNLEY Boys' Club is urging people to vote for it in a bid to secure £50,000 worth of lottery funding.

The historic group has been shortlisted for a cash windfall after applying to the Big Lottery Fund for money to extend its community hall.

The Barden Lane club's story will be featured on Granada Tonight this evening where it will go head-to-head with Little Ducks Play Group in Macclesfield. People will be asked to vote -- whichever group gets the most votes will scoop the funding.

The club, which has served thousands of Burnley people, was established 40 years ago after Burnley Lads' Club merged with Burnley Police Youth Club.

It wants to extend its services to improve facilities for senior citizens by increasing the size of the community hall and creating a new kitchen.

Club leader Glynn Skelton appealed for anyone who has used the club to vote for them.

He said: "This is the next phase in what we have been doing every few years, to look at what we can do to improve facilities and we have found that we are not doing enough for senior citizen groups in the area.

"We want to improve the service we can offer as it is an area that does tend to get left behind."
