WEST View chalked up their first win in the Blackburn Sunday League but were made to sweat by fellow new boys Clayton.
The team from Revidge roared to a 3-0 half time lead but were forced to cling on as Clayton stormed back after the break.
West View took the lead with a sweeping counter attack move.
Skipper Steve Taylor threaded a superb through ball to Jimmy Hammill who out-paced Ryan Fielding and cooly chipped the ball over the Dave Abbott.
Taylor set up Hammill again soon after but he curled an effort just wide.
But West View made their pressure count and scored two goals in as many minutes.
Hammill whipped in a near post corner that deflected in off a defender on the line. Number three arrived soon after when Bernard Cullen drilled in a low cross that Duckworth tucked away at the second time of asking.
Mick Charnock had a chance to put the game beyond Clayton when he intercepted a Keith Jones pass but saw his shot saved by Abbott.
Clayton, spurred on by the tireless Ian Spencer in midfield, rallied late in the half and Andy Turner was forced in to two saves from Clarkson. They kept up their good work early in the second half and Clarkson shot just wide after being teed up Stuart McMillan.
But they soon reduced the deficit when Spencer scored from the spot.Clayton made it 3-2 when Clarkson forced Turner in to a flying save only for Pargeter to hammed home the loose ball.
The luckless Clarkson then saw his flying header from McKenna's raking cross clatter against the bar.
But West View weathered the storm and had chances to extend their lead. Charnock had a goalbound shot headed off the line while Cullen was denied by the legs of Abbott.
However, they were fortunate not to concede a late equaliser when Pargeter fired a shot that crashed against the under side of the bar and away.
Whether it crossed the line or not was reason for much debate but the referee gave the defending side the benefit of the doubt.
So West View kicked off with a win and, on the evidence of their second half fight-back, Clayton's first won't be too far away.
