I WRITE in relation to the article (August 30) regarding the impending closure of Valley Arts Centre on Brunswick Street, Darwen.
I have known Alan and Jo Fielding for some years and understand their dedication in what they do.
They have provided facilities for local artists to express themselves in all art genres, giving time, encouragement and practical training to both professional and amateur alike.
Alan's love of art is unquestionable and his talent obvious to all who see his work.
He possesses an ability to pass on these qualities to anyone he teaches, especially children and those with learning disabilities.
To lose Valley Arts would be a great loss to our town and the people who live within its boundaries.
Blackburn with Darwen Council is committed to the welfare of local children through The Children's Trust and Sure Start.
Children are our future and whilst education and health are vitally important so is an appreciation of the beauty of the world in which they live, expressed through the medium of art in all its diverse forms.
We must give children of any age the opportunity to develop all their talents in order to maximise their potential, hopefully creating adults with both vision and purpose in their lives.
JEAN PROCTER, Milking Lane, Lower Darwen.
