Plans to build dozens of affordable homes in Leyland has angered residents living near to the proposed development.

It comes after property developers, Redrow Homes, submitted plans to build 67 properties in Dunkirk Lane, Moss Side, aimed at first-time buyers.

Residents fear traffic problems will worsen if plans to build the properties on the 1.4-acre site are given the go-ahead.

Dunkirk Lane resident, Dave Woosey and wife Carol have already complained to South Ribble Borough Council planning chiefs and plan to put in a joint letter of objection with next-door neighbours, Tom and Marti Jones.

"They are turning the place into a huge council estate," said Mr Woosey. "I've nothing against affordable homes or council properties but I'm concerned the value of my house will go down.

"There is the added problem of the extra traffic. The number of accidents there has been here already is unbelievable, this plan is going to make things twice as bad. This end of Dunkirk Lane is like one big junction as it is."

The proposed properties are part of Redrow's new Debut range, with prices starting from around £54,995. The plan includes a mix of single storey, one-bedroom properties and two storey, one and two bedroom homes, with extra workspace.

Even the largest properties are expected to be priced below the £120,000 stamp duty threshold, according to Redrow chiefs.

The property developer is already selling 71 Debut homes in Buckshaw Village, Euxton.

A Redrow spokesman said: "We have been careful to balance adequate parking requirements with the need to promote public transport and encourage people to use the bus route that runs in front of the site.

"There is already planning approval for access to the site, which the borough council and county council are currently assessing in terms of our proposals and traffic issues."
