PLANS to build a major new DIY warehouse, which developers say could have created hundreds of jobs in Morecambe, have been rejected.
Prime Sites UK wanted consent to build a massive new DIY warehouse on green field land at Mellishaw Lane.
Company spokesman Martin Ridgway told Lancaster City Council's planning committee on Monday the scheme would mean huge investment in the area and would around 1,000 jobs.
He also said that, once built, the warehouse would have DIY giants such as B&Q, Wickes and Homebase 'queueing up' to move in.
Councillors voted against the scheme because to the negative effect it would have on trade at existing shops in Morecambe and Lancaster.
It was also thought that a large store on the White Lund estate would create more traffic problems on Morecambe Road.
