BLACKBURN Rovers legend Simon Garner has resumed his 'training' for a nine-day jungle adventure.
And the club's all-time leading goalscorer is looking for brave volunteers to join him for the trip to Borneo in the Far East, which will include trekking, white water rafting and climbing.
The event, organised by the Professional Footballers' Association, is called the Borneo Cup and aims to raise more than £100,000 for charity Children Today.
Simon will be joined on the trip by ex-Everton goalkeeper Neville Southall, Liverpool legend Alan Kennedy, former Newcastle United star Brian Kilcline, ex-Bolton player Paul Jones and Arthur Albiston, formerly of Manchester United.
Each will lead a team of six volunteers through a series of challenges in the heat of the Equatorial jungle as they compete against each other.
Simon, who made 565 appearances for Rovers during a 14-year spell in the 1970s, 80s and 90s, said: "I'm excited about the prospect of white water rafting but I'm terrified at the thought of rope bridges. I'm not looking forward to sleeping in a hammock, either.
"I have never done anything like this before but it is a great cause and a great opportunity. The charity phoned me up and asked if I would do something for kids and I agreed. I didn't realise it would involve so much effort.
"I think I'll have to get myself fit and cut down on my smoking and drinking. Maybe I should jog down to the pub now rather than walk!"
And when it comes to his team-mates, he said he will need some fit pals to help "pull him round."
He added: "It is a bit of a competition but I'm just looking to finish the thing. I'm hoping to get a young team with me but really it's about raising money for a really good cause."
After landing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the teams will travel to Kota Kinabalu in Borneo where they will complete a 32-kilometre mountain bike ride before a raft race on the Kiulu River.
They will then trek through the forest and villages, as well as hone their abseiling, raft building and survival skills.
The adventure lasts for nine days and promises to be tough going, with several nights spent sleeping in the open.
The teams will score points for completing tasks, with the challenge starting in May. Organisers are now looking for volunteers for the trip of a lifetime and help raise cash.
