HEYSHAM Head is one of the best coastlines in the United Kingdom - and that's official.
The National Trust has named the rocky headland as one of the top 25 stretches of coast through-out the UK.
The sandstone cliffs over-looking Morecambe Bay could even be the best of the lot. But that title depends on votes cast by the Great British public.
The National Trust, which looks after 700 miles of the coastline, is running a competition to find the people's choice of the country's favourite seaside stretch.
Its 'Vote for the Coast' runs until October 31 to raise money for the Neptune coast campaign.
There are 25 areas for people to choose from in the vote - and a local councillor is urging everyone in the Morecambe Bay area to back the local landmark.
Heysham's city councillor Tina Clifford says: "It really is tremendous for Heysham that the headland has made it into this shortlist.
"I urge people to vote for Heysham Head because we are up against some tough competition in the contest."
The National Trust's Gill Raikes says: "The Neptune campaign is one of the UK's longest running environmental campaigns and has helped the Trust acquire important stretches of coastline to provide access for all, prevent unsuitable deve-lopment and enable holidaymakers and trip-pers to enjoy all that the coast has to offer.
"We now want to find out which stretch of National Trust coast means the most to the public and in doing so raise important funds to continue our vital work."
The results of the contest will be announced on November 12.
Heysham Head is up against the likes of the Gower Peninsula in Wales, Lindisfarne Castle, the Lleyn Peninsula and the Lizard in the race for the crown.
To vote for Heysham Head, call 0901-2934443 or text 'trust 10' to 84222.
Calls and texts cost £1, with 70p from each voice call and 55p from each text going straight to the National Trust's Neptune campaign.
