BLACKBURN Harriers have gone through the regular season unbeaten in the Northern Track and Field League, winning for the fourth time at Witton Park on Sunday.
Their season will now continue into next month as they face the top two in each of the four regional second divisions in a play-off showdown for two places in Northern Division One.
The Harriers have been regulars in the play-offs in recent seasons, but will be in good heart as they are the only team with a 100 per cent record in this year's second division.
Sunday's spectators witnessed yet another women's club record - they have been tumbling all season - as Sarah Henton putted the shot 10.98 metres.
Claude Peter-Thomas celebrated his call-up to Lancashire's Inter Counties Team with victory in the high hurdles, while there were wins for Tom Cornthwaite in the chase, Matt Wood in the 400m hurdles, Sarah Haworth in the 100m hurdles and Sarah Willimott in the 1500m.
The end of season will be an unusually busy time for Blackburn, and not only because of the play-off final at Cleakheaton on Saturday September 10.
After finishing fourth in last week's Northern Knockout Cup Match at Blackpool, club officials thought they had been eliminated, but they have just received notice they have reached the final as one of the best runners up. The final is at Cudworth at the end of August.
Pendle's relegation was confirmed at Blackburn despite several bright spots which included wins for Neil Tattersall in the 5,000 metres, Dave Thornton in the 1500m and long jumper Eleanor Markendale.
Rossendale Harriers went into their final Division 3WC Match at Ashton-under-Lyne equal second on points with East Cheshire Harriers knowing that defeating their hosts would probably bring promotion, but by the end of the day they had been relegated!
Their end of season celebrations at the local pub turned into an unexpected wake after they placed last in their final fixture.
Hyndburn will remain in Division 4W after a season of gradual progress which could lead to a promotion push next summer.
They were third of seven at their own Wilson's facility to finish fourth over the season.
