The proposed rebranding of minorities is no more than another ludicrous self-defeating idea from on high.
I have several friends & colleagues who, ostensibly at least, share identical characteristics but whose reactions to this idea would, I am sure, range from mildly amused to completely outraged. For example, are they to be British Muslims, British Asians, Asians, Muslims, British or British Muslim Asians? What about someone who is of Asian descent, British but is Christian, or some other religion?
There are potentially as many labels as there are individuals. Speaking for myself, my mother was half Spanish and I am told my paternal grandmother was Irish. What label does the Home office propose should apply to someone like me?
