With regards to the letter in last months Asian Image entitled 'Burkah Confusion' by Mrs Ashcroft.
The burkah's purpose is not to distinguish yourself from others or to make yourself prominent but it is a sign of modesty.
It is the decoration (beauty) of women as per the sayings (hadith) of the Prophet (PBUH). If you feel that wearing the burkah causes barriers between Asian and non-Asian to increase it is not due to the burkah but due to peoples mis-understanding and the way of thinking. Muslims never intend to be rude with anyone because Islam teaches us to be polite with everyone regardless of their religion.
There is a wisdom / philosophy behind each saying of the Prophet (PBUH).
I suggest everyone has discussions with scholars for further information.
