THREE shop assistants have been issued with fixed penalty notices for £80 each after they were found selling alcohol to a minor.
Trading standards officers worked with the police and community support to carry out test purchases at off-licences in Darwen between 6 and 9pm on August 5.
Several attempts to purchase alcohol were made and the majority of shop assistants correctly asked for ID before refusing to sell alcohol to someone under age.
The licensees from the off-licences that sold to the test purchaser will now be interviewed by trading standards.
Executive member for citizen and consumer rights Coun Frank Connor said: EURO oeWe are committed to stamping out under-age sales across Blackburn with Darwen and work hard with licensees to ensure they are aware of the law.
EURO oeAnyone found to be breaking the law will be dealt with appropriately.
EURO oeThe issue of a fixed penalty notice should act as a warning to anyone who sells or gives alcohol to a minor. EURO
Inspector Andrea Bradbury said: EURO oeWe take many calls from people who are fed up with the nuisance caused by under-age drinking.
EURO oeEvery weekend we seize alcohol from juveniles and this operation is part of our partnership approach to stop the supply. EURO
