THERE was no stopping the Stop and Rest last season as they created Blackburn Sunday League history by winning every one of their league matches.

The all-conquering Division Three side racked up an incredible 20 wins out of 20 as they clinched the title in fine style -- beating closest rivals Punchbowl by six points.

The Brandy House Brow pub side rattled in 97 goals, conceding just 16 and kept nine clean sheets.

Now they are preparing to do it all again.

Despite competing in a higher division, secretary Geoff Wales is confident his side can challenge for the title.

"I don't know about winning every single game but I am sure we will be a force in the league," said Geoff who stepped down as manager to take over as club secretary.

"What we did last season was a remarkable achievement and one that will be hard to match by any other side."

He added: "What made it even more remarkable was the fact that the side was virtually the same as the one we had the previous year and we didn't win a single game!"

Geoff added two new players to the squad that had drawn three games and lost the rest in the 2003/04 season and, in his own words, it all 'clicked in to place'.

"It wasn't just the two players that made the difference," added Geoff who has handed over team affairs to new manager, Ricky Barker. "We had a lot of younger players in the side who had struggled the season before but it all seemed to click in to place last season."

Now Geoff has a tough task of keeping his record-breaking team together as they chase Division Two honours.

Non League clubs have shown interest in some of his talented youngsters but he is confident he can keep the squad together.

"I'm hoping we can keep all of the lads together because I think, with a few additions, we could have another good season."

Another factor in the club's super season was that seven or eight of the players played together in the same Manxman side in the Blackburn Combination. "That continuity has certainly been a big help. When the lads play together on a Saturday and Sunday then they know each other's strengths and weaknesses."

But it has been down to a team effort rather than individuals.

"The best thing is that we have not had to rely on any one player and it has been a real team effort."

And he'll be hoping for another team effort as the Stop and Rest aim for more glory.
