AS a wheelchair user I agree with Graham Carter's comments (LET, June 23) that cobbles do nothing to alleviate the pain of the user.
It should not be difficult to lay a smooth path, perhaps of wood, for wheelchair access.
Witton Park is an example, where the stables and cafe are situated. It is impossible to access on the courtyard cobbles unless maybe the wheelchair is electrically-operated.
Many public areas are unsuitable as are highways.
For people pushing a wheelchair it can be an effort but with a little consideration parks, roads and streets could be made accessible in comfort both for the one pushing and wheelchair user.
