A WOMAN has been arrested after her boyfriend was stabbed in the stomach.

Police were called to a house in Tennyson Road, Colne, at 2.50am yesterday after reports that a 26-year-old man had been injured.

An ambulance was called and the man was taken to Burnley General Hospital.

Police described his condition as "stable" and said his injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

His partner was arrested by police and quizzed by detectives before being released on bail pending further inquiries.

Neighbours said a woman called Mandy lived at the house.

One, who asked not to be named, said: "I can't believe this has happened. I am in total shock.

"I got a knock at my door at 3am but couldn't get up as I have been having trouble with my back. I presume that would have been the police.

"I didn't hear any rowing that night. Mandy is a lovely neighbour. She has only recently celebrated her 37th birthday and is never any bother.

"Her boyfriend is quite a bit younger than her, used to stay at her house and they always seemed to be a nice couple.

"If I ever wanted a letter dropping off at the post box he would always take it."

Robert Winder, 37, of Tennyson Road, added: "I saw blue lights flashing outside and went to the window to see an ambulance pull up.

I wondered what on Earth was going on.

"It's horrendous to think that something like that could have happened around here. I don't know what he could have done to deserve that but I just hope the poor guy pulls through."

A spokesman for Pennine Police said: "Police were called to a domestic incident in Tennyson Road early on Sunday morning.

"A 26-year-old man had been stabbed in the stomach, although his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

"His partner had been arrested by police and released on police bail pending further inquiries."
