A NEW office block plan has sparked complaints that it will be a recipe for even more traffic chaos in Lancaster city centre.
A blueprint to demolish a garage and storage unit on land at the back of Bulk Road, to create office space has been given the nod by Lancaster City Council's planning committee.
But the project, which is being developed by Lancaster Property Network, has met with opposition.
Cllr Chris Coates told the Citizen: "This decision is a recipe for traffic chaos in the town. Not only will it cause delays during construction, but the idea that putting anymore traffic on to Back Caton road is a good idea is ludicrous."
He says the interests of big business is being out before the interests of the residents who will have to live with the consequences.
There were 15 letters lodged with the city council from nearby residents, objecting to the scheme.
But city councillors belief that the development will make a major contribution to the character, appearance and vitality of the landmark entrance to the city centre and will complement the Kingsway scheme.
