THE clock is to be turned back 60 years in Morecambe in the early days of Sept-ember - to the end of World War II.
The heady days sur-rounding the euphoria of VE and VJ Days will be remembered and celebrated at the annual Poulton Heritage Festival.
Hundreds of period re-enactors and 'living history' buffs will be heading to the resort from all corners of the UK and beyond.
They will be bringing military and civilian vehicles of all shapes and sizes - including everything from tanks and guns to old school buses - to the event from Friday, September 9, to Sunday, September 11.
And the whole town is being invited to join in the party which will encompass Forties entertainment and meals for all local war veterans and street parties for resort children.
Highlights of the weekend will include -
o Beach battle scene featuring D-Day landing re-enactment
o Frontierland site becomes an Army encampment
o Militaria Fair at the Platform
o Swing dances at the Dome and Smokey Joe's (Morecambe Ex-Service Club)
o Forties Military display at Morecambe Arena
o Morecambe ar War exhibition in the Town Hall
o Climbing Wall and modern Forced display in Poulton Square
o Forties Fashion Show at Smokey Joe's
Organisers at the Poulton Heritage Group have now been able to confirm all the major attractions and events of the weekend.
Now they need only one more thing to ensure that eberything goes with a Forties 'swing' - help from local volunteers.
Chairman Tim 'Mac' McCaffrey says: "It is vital now that we recruit as many people as we can to the cause. We have the momentum going forward and we have all the enthusiasm in the world but we must have people to help over the weekend.
"We need people to help in every way from giving out information and advice to visitors to helping out at street parties, ensuring our veterans are looked after and just generally being around to react to any unforeseen crisis."
