ACCRINGTON skipper Matt Wilson said he was a very happy man after his side won their first game of the season
against NELSON on Sunday.
After a record 16 successive defeats this season, it took a quick-fire knock of 23 from the last seven balls from Tariq Hussain to win the day at Seedhill.
Wilson said: "It was unbelievable. We thought we were going to get it on the Saturday but we missed out by three runs.
"But, finally get it is a great feeling. Teams were raising their game against us because they didn't want to be the first to lose to us. But we've finally done it and hopefully now we can win a few more."
Nelson opener Joe Scuderi took his personal run tally to over 800 with 77 in his side's 184-8.
Their run chase got off to a steady start and Wilson gave the league's bottom side a boost in the middle order with 45 but Hussain ensured he was the hero of the hour with 23 runs from just seven balls with just one wicket remaining.
He hit Nelson's pro Nathan Hauritz for three sixes and a four in the final over to give Accrington their first win in 11 months.
League leaders Ramsbottom lost their fourth game of the season as they were turned over by Rawtenstall.
Chris Cook-Martin made 60 with John Hayman making 28 as Rawtenstall made 176-7.
Ramsbottom's reply got off to a poor start with sub pro Sairaj Bahutule going for just two.
And despite needing a revised target of 114 Ramsbottom made only 78-5.

Petersen then made 100 with the bat as he and Mas Ahmed (56) put on 152 for the second wicket as Enfield eased home.

The Victorian made 89 not out in his side's total of 225-7 with skipper Joe Benduce making a career best 61 as the pair put on 106 for the sixth wicket. McDonald then took 5-42 as Rishton were skittled out for just 113. Jon Finch also weighed in with three wickets.
