HUNDREDS of people pedalled down to Nelson for a Pendle and East Lancashire Bike Fest double bill.
Unicyclists and stunt riders kept the crowd entertained at Victoria Park as they were encouraged to have a go and find out more about how to get back on their bikes during the Pendle Cycle Show. And the more energetic took part in the Eric Wright Construction Pendle Pedal, some raising money for charity, as they took one of four courses around Pendle's countryside.
Among those who took part in the pedal was David Thomason, 38, of Springfield Avenue, Earby, who undertook the mountain bike challenge.
He said: "It was fantastic, really good. The cycle show is better than last year, there's more on. A friend saw the race advertised and suggested we take part."
Three other routes were available, a 25km circuit through Blacko, Roughlee and Fence and two 'Ribble Raids', one 60km and for the more energetic an 80km run.
Meanwhile, back at Victoria Park, one youngster was being inspired to get on his bike by a stunt team from West Craven.
Dalton Stevenson, 13, of Wiswell Close, Burnley said: "I just wanted to come and see what it's like. I'm stunned how they get across the blocks, one to another. I'd give it a go."
The day was a hit with adults too, who would have liked to see more publicity about what was going on.
Ian Greaves, of Hill End, Briercliffe, said: "We like cycling and we like to support anything going on locally. So far, we're quite impressed, it's a pity more people aren't here to see it. We were a bit confused about what was going on. There was very little advertising in Burnley for it and it's not far to come."
His wife Caroline added: "It's a great event for cycling locally and they should do more to promote it, especially as such a lot has been invested in cycle tracks. Something like this would bring people over to the idea of using them."
Craig Smithson, of Prairie Crescent, Burnley, said: "The unicyclists are very good. They make it look easier than it is. I don't know anybody who can ride a unicycle like that.
There are quite a few people here now and local events are always good. They should get more backing. It takes a lot of effort to put together something like this."
Pendle and East Lancashire Bike Fest ends with the Clitheroe Grand Prix on August 3.
