I READ with some surprise the Citizen's declaration of a campaign to 'Revive the Western' link road.
If you recall in 2004 the legal advice to the county council was that this choice of route was 'extraordinary, perverse, and lacking logic'.
The only good thing is that the campaign might provide a distraction and buy some time in which to investigate sustainable transport solutions to the current congestion.
In my opinion congestion is caused by two things - a road network that is restrictive and too many cars. Solutions are likely to be more sustainable if they do something about the number of cars.
Let's start looking locally for traffic solutions because with 80 per cent of vehicles on local roads simply travelling between or within Lancaster and Morecambe, that is where the best results will be found, not externally to the M6 motorway via the North or the West.
