MORECAMBE produced one of their best results of the season to make it five wins on the spin in the Surridge Northern Premier League in the most unlikely circumstances.
Winning the toss and batting first on a perfect looking Kendal track, Morecambe fully expected to rack up a 200-plus score.
With wickets tumbled and they limped to a disappointing 150-all out in 48 overs.
Mark Woodhead was first to go, flicking Kevin Howarth to square leg - the only man on the leg side of the field - and professional Mark Orchard could only make 17 when a big score was wanted.
Mallie Mateka's 39 was a crucial innings and Gareth Pedder got into double figures but skipper Phil Dennison went leg before to Howarth on his very first ball.
Dennison shuffled slightly across his stumps - but the decision still appeared harsh.
That brought Tommy Clough to the crease and his innings was excellent as his good form with the bat carried on.
Clough made 36 as Morecambe managed to get to 150, although that was a score they didn't believe would be enough as pro Kabir Khan and Howarth claimed nine wickets between them.
And when Kendal coasted into the 80s for the loss of one wicket, Morecambe's cause seemed to be lost.
But Orchard stepped up to the mark and turned in a fantastic bowling display to turn the game into his side's favour.
The Kiwi class act removed the dangerous Terry Hunte for 37 and also sent Khan back to the pavilion for 31 as he built up a head of steam in the Kendal sunshine.
Even at this stage Kendal were the favourites with five wickets down and less than 20 runs needed for victory.
But Orchard scorched in to put Morecambe in with a fighting chance of claiming a crucial win.
And when Pedder removed Damian Gudgeon to warp up the win, the celebrations started in earnest.
"It was a great performance in the field and with the ball," says Dennison. "We didn't bat well - but we made up for that with the other aspects of the game and I was delighted with all the lads."
Morecambe go in search of a sixth straight win on Saturday when Fleetwood roll into Woodhill Lane.
Wicket-keeper Brendan Hetherington is back in the squad after a shoulder problem.
"Brendan is fit," adds Dennison. "And he will play if selected.
"We are doing well at the moment and it would be nice to carry on the run.
"Because we do not fear anyone the way we are playing."
