FURTHER to your report on the proposed children's centre to be built on green fields in Little Harwood, Blackburn, I would like to put the following points forward.
Firstly, I am not against a children's centre being built or the benefits it will bring to the community.
Why build on one of the last remaining green areas of Little Harwood when there is a purpose built nursery school on Kelsall Avenue with more than sufficient grounds to build on.
The nursery site would appear to be more beneficial for the children who are going to use the centre as there are large mature garden and natuire areas to explore, the alternative being a very small area that will take years to mature.
St Stephens school children would also benefit if the Kelsall Avenue site was developed, as the children will not have to "share" their all weather sports pitch with the general public during school hours.
The council has recently passed plans to extend John Smethurst nursery school, why can't they extend Kelsall Nursery?
Once the proposed site is completed and taking into account the school children, there will be approximately 600 people arriving and leaving Robinson Street every day, where are the parents/carers etc going to park?
Even if half of the children walk to the centre/school every day and taking into account siblings, there are still say 200 people want to park cars, where?
If Kelsall nursery is to move to the proposed site, what are the council's plans for the existing nursery grounds?
I write as a concerned parent who has had three children enjoy the benefits of the current Kelsall nursery site.
I travel every day from Whalley because of the excellent facilities. These facilities should be extended to enable children of the future to enjoy the grounds and that the school age children can continue having sports days etc.
The government are trying to encourage children to take more exercise because of the obesity problem of the nation, so why is a Labour council taking away playing fields when there appears to be a perfect alternative for the centre to be built on?
